Not much you can do, really, if the band objects. Either you tell them to stuff it, or oblige to be the nice guy. It's a sticky situation, but all you can do is try until someone makes a fuss.

Hi there, interesting story and I am living the exact same problem, what can we do beside selling the prints? are they going to get upset by looking at them in stock agencies selling as RM?

Exactly. If you're shooting a cover for a magazine, you have to give room for the header. Or, if the mag allows the photo to overlap the header, there's always that option (eg: rolling stone, maxim, etc). That usually requires some pretty clean background though.

Granted, you don't want to shoot EVERYTHING like you're aiming for a cover or flyer or article lead. But it helps to put one or two in there if you think it might go that direction.

Excellent points, Lou. I've shot plenty of mag covers and sometimes people complain about headroom in my shots. Would you rather your face be obscured by type when it appears on a cover or as a full page with text over it? It may not have been the purpose of my shooting (say, when I shoot rugby, which I do for fun, mostly), but, as you said, you never know. The same holds true for horizontals. They could become part of a double truck and need room for text ... or just something to crop to fit an odd space.

I'm shooting some material for a friend's CD soon and I'll be keeping your lessons learned in mind when I do. Thanks, man.

I had the pleasure of meeting Susan and David Martin Wheeler today at my friend's yard sale in Anderson CA. What a pleasant conversation we had. Both David and Susan were as charming as could be and when we were able to tell him that there were no other yard sale shoppers in the carport..... He sang "My Time's Gone By" for us. He has such a lovely tone to his voice. We were very impressed.
He told us of their children and that since he wrote this song they have been blessed with Grandchildren. What a lucky man you are to have such sweet parents!

Thanks Beau! Yeah, it was fun, and definitely the fact that she's a friend did make things easier, but still, you're right. Being a guy and taking pics of someone in this situation definitely has it's built-in obstacles--moreso because a lot of boudoir subjects aren't models. But it was definitely fun, and something I'd like to do more of in the future.
